Au début de La Tour Sombre, on apprend que seuls deux Rayons sont encore intacts, à savoir le Rayon Ours-Tortue et le Rayon Loup-Éléphant (aussi connu sous le nom de Rayon de Gan). À eux deux, ils constituent le seul câble retenant encore la Tour Sombre en place.

Alors que Roland Deschain et ses amis atteignent le Devar-Toi, le télémètre du Devar a déjà enregistré les premiers accrocs dans l'Ours-Tortue. Heureusement pour nous tous, dans tous les mondes, notre ka-tet terrasse les hommes de main du Roi Cramoisi et les Rayons peuvent enfin se régénérer.
