Les Salpidae sont l'unique famille de tuniciers pélagiques de l'ordre des Salpida ou salpes. Ils se déplacent par contractions, pompant l’eau via leur corps gélatineux et filtrant ainsi le phytoplancton dont ils se nourrissent.
