Trois jours après l’attaque des Lent Mutants, ils arrivent dans une sorte de gare, où ils peuvent déchiffrer au dessus d’une des 24 entrées une inscription en Haut Parler qui annonce VOIE 10 VERS LA SURFACE ET VERS L’OUEST
. Ils découvrent un cadavre dans un stand de livres dans un magasin de la gare, et Roland explique à Jake qu’il s’agit d’une victime d’une attaque au gaz (conçu par les Grands Anciens, selon ce que Vannay son instructeur lui aurait enseigné).
Après avoir traversé un pont à la structure déglinguée, Walter pose un choix à Roland qui laisse Jake tomber dans le gouffre situé sous les montagnes. Jake avant de tomber lui crie Allez-vous-en. Il existe d’autres mondes que ceux-ci.
, puis Roland suit Walter hors du tunnel, dans le Golgotha.
