Eindhoven glow 2013 - Cotzen (v1)
The Eye of Time
GLOW - International Forum of Light in Art and Architecture
Eindhoven 2013 - 8th Edition - 'Urban Playground'
From November, 9th to 16th 2013, the city center of Eindhoven turns again into a forum of interventions, installations, performances and events based on the phenomena of artificial light.
Artist: Cotzen
Location: Catharinakerk
About the project:
St Catherine’s Church (Catharinakerk) has been a witness to life in Eindhoven for 150 years. The city and its inhabitants have felt the ravages of rain, wind, heat and lightning more than once over the years. People living in an urban environment are less aware of the weather than those who live in the country. The French collective CozTen gives us an opportunity to feel and experience the sheer power of the elements. The Eye of Time is a story about dreams and memory told through the eyes of the Catharinakerk.
Every lightning flash that appears triggers a flashback that explores a season or weather condition. Different elements of narrative focus on different parts of the church. Sometimes the story is told from the viewpoint of the large rose window; next it may be told by the buttresses or pinnacles. Using projections and coloured light, various episodes of the church’s history are portrayed. A soundtrack by composer Enzo Izzi which integrates sounds of birds, thunder and wind, along with traditional and electronic fragments of music, enhances the unfolding narratives.
