Les jardins de Gardjola

Les jardins de Gardjola sont perchés dans les bastions de Senglea, et offrent des vues spectaculaires sur le Grand Port, Marsa, La Valette, et le Fort Saint-Ange. Cette photo est prise depuis le sommet du Barrakka Lift dans les Upper Gardens...


Les jardins furent dessinés par le Grand Maître De La Sengle en 1551 avec une jolie tour de garde construite à la pointe des bastions. La tour de garde, « Il-gardjola », comporte divers symboles sculptés tels qu'un œil (The eye on the tower), une oreille et l'oiseau grue, représentant la tutelle et l'observance protégeant les côtes maltaises.


Les jardins sont plantés de palmiers et offrent un endroit pour se détendre à l'ombre tout en profitant de la vue.
