13.6.5.6 REPEAT Syntax

  1. [begin_label:] REPEAT
  2.     statement_list
  3. UNTIL search_condition
  4. END REPEAT [end_label]

The statement list within a REPEAT statement is repeated until the search_condition expression is true. Thus, a REPEAT always enters the loop at least once. statement_list consists of one or more statements, each terminated by a semicolon (;) statement delimiter.

A REPEAT statement can be labeled. For the rules regarding label use, see Section 13.6.2, “Statement Label Syntax”.

Example:

  1. mysql> delimiter //
  2.
  3. mysql> CREATE PROCEDURE dorepeat(p1 INT)
  4.        BEGIN
  5.          SET @x = 0;
  6.          REPEAT
  7.            SET @x = @x + 1;
  8.          UNTIL @x > p1 END REPEAT;
  9.        END
  10.        //
  11. Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec)
  12.
  13. mysql> CALL dorepeat(1000)//
  14. Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec)
  15.
  16. mysql> SELECT @x//
  17. +------+
  18. | @x   |
  19. +------+
  20. | 1001 |
  21. +------+
  22. 1 row in set (0.00 sec)
