John Farson, un écumeur originaire de Garlan et de Desoy, prend le pouvoir dans les terres situées à l’est de la Nouvelle Canaan. Ses disciples l’appellent l’Homme de Bien. Farson ressuscite les machines tueuses des Grands Anciens afin de renverser l’Affiliation et l’aristocratie des pistoleros. Les pistoleros ratés de Gilead et des Baronnies Intérieures, envoyés en disgrâce à l’ouest, rejoignent progressivement les rangs des partisans de Farson.

C’est aussi l’année ou Roland Deschain, Cuthbert Allgood et Alain Johns viennent au monde.
