La Zone d'Expansion est à la suite de sa découverte laissée aux corporations par la République. Celles-ci la sur-exploitent rapidement. Dans son Histoire, la Zone d'Expansion connaît beaucoup de crises économiques. La région est peu colonisée au profit de la Bordure ; les routes hyperspatiales y sont ainsi moins nombreuses. Dans les derniers temps de la République, la Fédération du Commerce domine cette zone, et, sous l'Empire, l'Alliance Rebelle s'y réfugie.
