Bellshill a connu dans la deuxième moitié des années 1980 une importante scène de rock indépendant. Plusieurs groupes se sont créés dans la ville, The Vaselines, The Soup Dragons, BMX Bandits, The Boy Hairdressers et son successeur, Teenage Fanclub.
