Montpothier est une commune française, située dans le département de l'Aube en région Grand Est.== Géographie == Un ruisseau de 5,5 km, le Réveillon, y prend naissance et rejoint un affluent de la Seine, le Resson, à La Saulsotte, autre commune de l'Aube.

Histoire

Le 27 octobre 1870, le ballon monté Jean-Bart s'envole de la gare d'Orléans à Paris alors assiégée par les Prussiens et termine sa course à Montpothier après avoir parcouru 114 kilomètres.
