Fougères est une commune française sous-préfecture d'Ille-et-Vilaine, en région Bretagne. Fougères compte 20 602 habitants en 2022, faisant d'elle la troisième commune d'Ille-et-Vilaine après Rennes, la capitale régionale (227 830 habitants), et Saint-Malo (47 255 habitants)
Elle devance Bruz (19 667 habitants) et Vitré (18 892 habitants). Elle est également au cœur de la communauté d'agglomération Fougères Agglomération (55 120 habitants) et du Pays de Fougères regroupant près de 88 000 habitants. Cette ville comporte de nombreux sites touristiques, tels que son château ou son beffroi
Ses habitants sont appelés les Fougerais et les Fougeraises.
