La commune de Bounouh est située au sud-ouest de la wilaya de Tizi Ouzou.

La commune de Bounouh a été constituée en 1985, à partir de vingt trois villages et localistes suivantes :

Le territoire de la commune Bounouh a été détachée de Boghni en 1984. Son premier président de l'APC est M. KANANE
Transports
La principale route traversant la commune est le chemin de wilaya CW4 (« route de Frikat ») entre Draâ El Mizan à l'ouest et la route nationale RN 306 (de Boghni vers le Djurdjura). Une autre route partant de Boghni traverse la commune vers Aït Laziz au sud (« route d'Ath Smaïl-Bounouh »).
