Zelzate est une commune néerlandophone de Belgique située en Région flamande, dans la province de Flandre-Orientale.
Toponymie
Anciennement en français Selsaete.
Héraldique
La commune possède des armoiries qui lui ont été octroyées le . La partie supérieure des armoiries montre les armoiries d'Assenede, comme la municipalité appartenait historiquement, en partie au Métier d'Assenede (cf. Quatre-Métiers). La moitié inférieure symbolise le canal Gand-Terneuzen qui a joué un rôle majeur dans le développement du village. L'argent est le canal, le vert les champs verts, ce qui indique également l'importance historique de l'agriculture pour la municipalité.
