Srbac (en serbe cyrillique : Србац) est une ville et une municipalité de Bosnie-Herzégovine située dans la république serbe de Bosnie

Selon les premiers résultats du recensement bosnien de 2013, la ville intra muros compte 3 005 habitants et la municipalité 19 001. Srbac était autrefois connue sous le nom de Svinjar (Свињар).

Géographie

Srbac est situé au confluent du Vrbas et de la Save, le long de la frontière entre la Bosnie-Herzégovine et la Croatie. L'altitude y est comprise entre 89 Vlaknica et 652 Gradina.

La municipalité est entourée par celles de Derventa, Gradiška, Laktaši et Prnjavor.

Histoire

Dans les premiers documents écrits sur la ville en 1596, elle est nommée Svinjar, la « porcherie » par Hafiz Ahmed-paša qui la traverse la même année avec son armée pour envahir l'Autriche ; le seigneur musulman trouvait qu'il y avait trop de cochons dans la ville ; cette appellation a été reprise par les cartographes autrichiens en 1621.
