Réseau construit au sein d’une infrastructure informatique publique, utilisant des connexions sécurisées (souvent cryptées au niveau des protocole les plus bas) afin de mettre en place un sous-réseau privé sur une infrastructure non sécurisée (par exemple sur l'Internet).
