SDH
Angl : Synchronous Digital Hierarchy.
Fr : hiérarchie numérique synchrone.

Cœur d’une architecture de transmission destinée aux infrastructures de réseaux publics de télécommunication, à base de fibre optique.
Contrairement à la PDH, la hiérarchie numérique synchrone offre la possibilité d'insérer ou d'extraire des voies sans opérations de multiplexage/démultiplexage. La topologie de SDH peut être maillée, mais est le plus souvent constituée d'un double anneau.
