Quad Data Rate
L'innovation apportée par le Pentium 4 consiste à faire transiter quatre paquets de 64 bits à chaque cycle d'horloge ; ce mécanisme est appelé Quad Pumped, ou encore Quad Data Rate, car il quadruple le débit effectif.

Par exemple, pour le bus système du Pentium 4 (large de 64 bits et cadencé à 100MHz), on atteint un débit de 8 octets x 100 MHz x 4 soit 3,2Go/s. En comparaison, le bus AGTL du Pentium III offre un débit de 1,06Go/s à 133MHz.
