Album n°1 dans la série The Apu - Saga

Fresque dramatique sur la vie d'une famille indienne composee de trois parties: "La Complainte du sentier", "Aparajito" (l'Invaincu), "Apu Sansar" (le Monde d'Apu) ayant pour pivot la jeunesse, l'adolescence et la maturite d'Apu qui commence sa vie dans un petit village du Bengale et la poursuit a Calcutta. Ce film presente au festival de Cannes fut boude par le public et la presse. Seul A. Bazin et quelques rares chroniqueurs en remarquerent les grandes qualites. Satyajit Ray fut pique par le 7e Art apres avoir decouvert "le Voleur de bicyclette" et "le Fleuve".
