Définition de «Bit»

Fr : chiffre binaire.
Le bit est la plus petite unité d’information et de mémoire d’un ordinateur. Il est de type booléen, et ses deux états sont 0 et 1.
A ne pas confondre avec un byte, qui est codé sur 8 bits.
Une combinaison de bits peut indiquer un caractère alphabétique, un chiffre ou remplir d’autres fonctions parmi lesquelles la signalisation et la commutation.
