En 36 PRD, Roland Deschain est sur la piste de l’Homme en Noir. C’est ainsi que débutent les aventures de La Tour Sombre, dans le premier roman.
Roland entre dans Tull et se fait attaquer par surprise par les disciples de la prêtresse folle Sylvia Pittston, servante du Roi Cramoisi et maîtresse de l’Homme en Noir (alias Walter O’Dim). Roland tue toute la population de Tull, y compris Alice, qui est devenue sa maîtresse.

En 36 PRD, Roland marche pendant quelques semaines dans le désert Mohaine après avoir tué la population de Tull. Il rencontre Brown, un frontalier qui lui offre le gîte et le couvert.

John Chambers (Jake) est renversé par une Cadillac bleue (un modèle de 1976), au coin de la 2ème Avenue et de la 43ème Rue. Il décède dans la rue, et se réveille dans le monde de Roland.

#4En 36 PRD, lors de sa traversée du Désert Mohaine, Roland de Gilead rencontre Jake Chambers à la Gare du Relais (un relais de diligence), et l’emmène avec lui. Il découvre que ce dernier est entré dans son monde en étant assassiné dans le sien.
