Entre 14 et 15 PRD, en raison de leur victoire à Hambry, Alain et Cuthbert sont promus au rang de Pistolero sans passer les épreuves.

Gabrielle Deschain rentre d’une retraite à Debaria. Toujours sous l’emprise de Marten Largecape, elle projette de tuer son mari, mais Roland l’en empêche. Il l’abat accidentellement.
