Richard Bachman a commencé sa vie sous l'un des pseudonymes de Stephen King, mais comme cela arrive souvent avec les personnages de fiction, il a rapidement assumé sa propre identité et a fait une pause pour la liberté en s'installant sur l'un des autres niveaux de la Tour Sombre. Au cours de sa vie, Bachman a publié cinq romans. Il s'agissait de Rage, The Long Walk, Roadwork, The Running Man et Thinner. Bien que Bachman, survivant d'une leucémie de l'adulte, soit décédé du cancer du pseudonyme en 1985, d'autres manuscrits (dont The Regulators) ont été découverts par sa veuve, CLAUDIA INEZ BACHMAN (aujourd'hui Claudia Inez Eschelman), jusqu'en 1994. Cela soulève la question inévitable : tous les Richard Bachman, à tous les niveaux de la Tour, ont-ils réellement atteint la clairière au bout du chemin ? Ou est-il possible qu’au moins un Bachman soit encore en vie ? Si tel est le cas, nous verrons davantage de ses livres apparaître mystérieusement dans notre monde.
