In 1867, a boy named Christian offers to take a girl named Anne back to Australia with him. But he is unable to come up the with money and a few years later, Anne dies and is buried in the village cemetery. In 1967, another Christian from Australia visits the village and meets another girl named Anne. After a week together, he proposes to her and asks her to go to Australia with him when his musical group's tour in the north ends. Anne accepts, but months pass and she receives no word from him.
