An old man and his daughter try to recruit Arak to kill the river dragon terrorizing the city, claiming it is not a true dragon, but a creature of evil. Arak says he'll think about it, angering the daughter with his reticence. Later, at a feast, the dragon attacks once again and Malagigi has to call upon his sorcery to drive it away. But, Malagigi was also able to discern who summoned the dragon: none other than Angelica, servant of the Serpent Lord! Arak knows he'll have to kill the beast, now.
