Dynastie Chakri

La dynastie Chakri est la dynastie actuellement régnante en Thaïlande. Fondée en 1782, la dynastie Chakri prit la succession des rois d'Ayutthaya défaits par les Birmans

Ce changement dynastique fut aussi l'occasion de la fondation de Bangkok comme capitale du royaume

Les rois Chakri prirent le nom dynastique de « Rama » à partir d'une décision du roi Rama III

Dix rois se sont succédé sur le trône depuis 1782

En 1932, la monarchie absolue devint une monarchie constitutionnelle sur le modèle britannique

En 1939, le royaume de Siam devient la Thaïlande à la suite d'un coup d'État militaire

Après le règne exceptionnellement long (70 ans) de Rama IX, son fils Maha Vajiralongkorn lui succède en 2016 sous le nom de Rama X.
