Ruinen est un village néerlandais de la commune de De Wolden, situé dans la province de Drenthe

Le 1er janvier 2020, la population s'élevait à 3 700 habitants.

Géographie

Le village se situe dans le sud de la province de Drenthe, à 10 Hoogeveen. L'économie locale est principalement tournée vers les productions agricoles.

Histoire

Ruinen a été du Moyen Âge à la période française une grande seigneurie connue comme la seigneurie de Ruinen. Dans un acte dté de 1139, Otto van Ruinen est mentionné comme l'un des serviteurs de l' évêque d'Utrecht. En 1140, des moines bénédictins fondèrent un monastère, l'Abbaye bénédictine de Sainte-Marie , avec une chapelle associée à Marie , la Mariakapel. Le monastère a ensuite été transféré à Dickninge.
